The Perfect Summer Bucket List

Do you feel that? The sun beating down your neck, the warm breeze on your face, sand in your toes, and the smell of sunscreen filling the air? That can only mean one thing - summer is officially here! 

As the days grow longer and the sun gets stronger, we want to help you look for that perfect summer activity. Whether you need a break from the sun after too many beach days or are looking for a fun way to enjoy the outdoors, we’ve compiled a summer bucket list with 31 of our favorite ways to spend our days. Some ideas are local to our community here in Charleston, and others can be enjoyed anywhere you are! Just as the summer solstice hits, here you go…


Activities for everyone:

  1. Visit a local farmers’ market to find local ingredients to cook some new dishes

  2. Try a new sport like pickleball or kayaking (or beat your record in paddleball)

  3. Grab a fishing pole and go drop a line

  4. Stay cool by trying your hand at making homemade popsicles 

  5. Trade books with friends and spend the days hitting that reading goal under a tree

  6. Pitch a tent in your backyard and have a stay-at-home camping experience 

  7. Go fruit picking and bake yourself a sweet treat 

  8. Find a drive-in movie near you (or better yet, set one up in your yard)

  9. Get together with some friends for a game of beach volleyball or spikeball

  10. Take a hike where the destination is a refreshing pool of water to splash around in

  11. Cool off in your yard with an inflatable pool (perfect for your pups on a hot day too)

  12. Host a barbecue with your community

  13. Plant and maintain a garden in your yard

  14. Frequent your local flea markets or go repurpose some items with a little antiquing

  15. Drive to a nearby town or city and explore the area

  16. Have a big bonfire with s’mores with your loved ones

  17. Start a scrapbook for all your summer memories

  18. Watch the sunrise after an early morning plunge in the lake or ocean

  19. Craft a bird feeder to hang in your backyard and watch them flock 

  20. Hit up a waterpark on those especially gruelingly warm days

  21. Start outlining and writing that book you’ve been meaning to get to


Activities specific to Charleston:

  1. Events at Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum 

  2. Plan a visit to the 2024 Spoleto Festival

  3. Spend an evening at a Charleston Battery game 

  4. Attend a happy hour at Party at the Point with live music

  5. Go hopping around the Brewery District

  6. Listen to the Reggae Nights Summer Concert

  7. Dance away a night on the Cooper

  8. Stop by Freshfields Village for Cars and Coffee on every third Saturday of the month 

  9. Watch the Annual Folly Beach Wahine Classic

  10. Visit the bindl booth at any of our markets or pop-ups!
